GPS tracking system

Help / FAQ

How many charges can the Lithium-Ion battery endure?

You can expect around 500 recharges before the battery will need replacement by a dealer. The battery technology is similar to a cell phone and the same sort of life can be expected under normal operation. If you are using the battery just as a backup in a permanent installation a longer effective life can be expected. Vehicle or asset theft can be quickly detected so a shorter running time remains acceptable before battery replacement is required.

How sensitive is the movement detection system on the SatSleuth system ?

The SatSleuth system is set to detect movement of 50mG without any appreciable degree of false triggering. This equates to a vehicle accelerating to about 1.7 Km/h (or around one mile per hour) over a one second period. As angle changes of less than five degrees will also be detected this makes it extremely hard for a vehicle to be moved without detection.

What accuracy can I expect from the SatSleuth system?

Globally you can expect around five meters accuracy but this can be down to two meters in areas with WAAS or SBAS coverage. As a general rule you will always be able to determine what road a car is on but you may not be able to work out which side of the road it is on. Sometimes accuracy will be degraded significantly more if the GPS antenna does not have a clear view of the sky, such as when the vehicle is located in a parking garage.

What happens if there is no GPS coverage, like an undercover park?

The GPS receiver in the unit is very sensitive, so often it will continue operating but the high-frequency used by GPS signals doesn't penetrate steel and other dense materials well so sometimes a GPS position fix will just not be possible. In this case the unit reports in the last valid position that was received and gives an indication that the position is 'held'. This will still give you an excellent chance of theft recovery when the vehicle or asset has been placed in a garage, shipping container or similar.
